Favorites Friday 9.30.11

Here are my favorites of the week!
Like I said before this isn't really a weekly thing, it's more
like a whenever I remember and have time kind of thing.
One day I would like to have a linky party like many of my favorite blogs
have and have it take place instead of favorites friday!

1. I LOVE Maggie's Remodeled Kitchen from Mummy Maggie Chronicles
It is gorgeous, It makes me so excited to finish my own kitchen but
then I remember we don't have money to finish! LOL

2. I love this organized and clean looking craft room
It is beautiful! I love the bright blue walls and the white furniture!

3. I love this wreath! I found this on Pinterest
This is what I originally wanted to use the twigs for
that I used for my cherry blossom branches
but I didn't have enough! boo! So I still want to make
a wreath for my front door which I hope I can make next week!

4. I love this pleated fabric bracelet from Momma Go Round
It is gorgeous! I need to make one of these! or a couple!

and that is it for this Friday!
I hope you all have an awesome weekend!

DIY Cherry Blossom Branches

I pinned this idea on Pinterest a while back and finally got around to making it!
I went to a couple stores looking for branches and didn't find any so when our
backyard tree died, I took it's branches and used them for this project.
That's seeing the glass half full for ya! I turned a dead tree into an opportunity!
lo that rhymes!! Anywho here are my tissue paper cherry blossom branches...
I used an empty glass juice jug for my vase! I just love those glass jugs!
I have two of them! I got mine at whole foods, we drank all the juice
cleaned it off and took off the label using nail polish remover and here
it is all cleaned out..
I didn't add a ton of tissue paper flowers because I
didn't want it to over do it, I wanted a more simple look!
I also added a couple white ones...
and here it is on my dresser next to one of
the prints I have on my shop...
I love this! It was so easy to make and I didn't buy a single thing!
The jug I already had, the branches I took off the dead tree and
the tissue paper I had as well! All you need is a glue gun and there
is no right or wrong way to roll up your flowers, just play around cutting
squares or triangles and once you have a good flower shape glue em on!
I love how the pink brings a bit of girliness to our bedroom! :)

Coat Closet Makeover

Finally I can post a reveal for a room in our home that is completely finished! It's a small room but it took some work to get it to what it looks like now!
I won a stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils back in June from Pamela's awesome blog PB&J Stories. I picked the pretty casablanca stencil and got it within a couple weeks and I've been wanting to use it but never had time to until my son started school! He only goes on tuesdays so his first day of school I took
advantage and I pulled out the stencil and the free quart of glidden paint I got in Goldenrod a while back and I tackled this project! Here are the before pictures. The closet was super messy and disorganized and pretty embarrassing opening it and all the junk spilling out! lol This is the view from the dinning room, it's very hard to get a full shot of this closet since it's in the hallway.....
Here is what the top and bottom sections of this
closet looked like before the makeover..
and here is what the closet looks like
 now without the coats...
The stencil was super easy to use! I love the outcome! I was a little impatient waiting for the paint to dry on some parts so there are some messed up bits here and there but you cant tell and it's a closet so it doesn't matter! lol It was practice for the wall in the dinning room I plan to stencil one day!
Here are more afters for you all to see...
Here is the cost breakdown for this room:
Stencil: FREE
Paint: FREE
Shoe Rack: $12.99 at Target
Storage Boxes: $9.99 at IKEA (2 pack)
Wood Hangers: $5.97/ 3 packs of 5 at IKEA
Bottom Baskets: FREE (already had)

TOTAL= $28.95

The shoe rack thing is supposed to have a bottom shelf but the shelf wouldn't fit because of the baseboard on the bottom so I removed it and added the baskets so there wouldn't be a weird gap on the bottom. So what do you think?  I wish you could all see this in person because the pictures just don't do it justice! I tried to get full shots but it's really hard since this coat closet is in the hallway and it's just very hard to photograph! Here are some before & afters together:

Skirt Turned Toddler Maxi Dress & Headband

First of all Thank You All for your wonderful comments and birthday wishes to
my Son Joshua in my previous post! I am glad it encouraged and touched your hearts
I think as followers of Christ it is important to share what he has done in our lives!
We must not keep things to ourselves but let others know how AWESOME he is and
the GREAT things he has done and is capable of doing in our lives!

This skirt was my sister's and she was selling it at a garage sale they had when moving.
As soon as I saw it I loved the fabric and thought it would make a cute dress for my
daughter. So I took it! :) Here is the before pic of the skirt.
(Notice the bad quality of the before pic taken with my phone!
I have borrowed my sister's camera to take all the afters!)

And here is my little model wearing the dress and matching headband I made
for her. The dress was pretty simple to make especially since I didn't have to
hem it and it was already lined so it was super easy!
I measured my little model then I cut the skirt in half and sewed it up then at the top
I added a button so It can fit her next summer as well! I made her a matching little
headband with the leftover fabric and some elastic! I plan on making her more and
maybe posting a tutorial for ya'll! Would you be interested in a tutorial?
As cute as the headband is my princess HATES headbands! Actually she
hates anything on her head! lol She takes off ponytails, clips and anything else
I try to put on her! So before our shoot began we had a little "episode" lol
Here is a picture of the little meltdown we had while trying to put the headband
on, she even wanted to take off the dress!
After bribing her with candy Later on she calmed down and decided
she wanted to wear the dress and headband and pose for me...
Oh yes those flowers are from our neighbor's backyard tree! lol
The tree is so big it's branches come out to our side and Sarah loves
flowers so she wanted to hold one in order for me to take pictures of her!
Yup she's a little Diva! ;)
Oh yes and in case you don't follow me via facebook
(which you should if you don't!) I got my new photshop
this weekend!! whoo hoo! So my etsy shop is up and running again!

My Son Joshua

I usually don't like to share too many personal things about myself or my family here
on the blog but today is my son's 5th birthday and I am just so thankful for the five
wonderful years God has given my son! I have learned so much through him and
have seen many of God's great wonders in him ever since the day he was born.
And I want to share my gratitude and my joyfulness for everything God has done:

Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
Know that the LORD is God.
   It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
  Enter his gates with thanksgiving
   and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.
Psalm 100

You see Joshua was born with a submucous cleft palate which is a type of cleft
palate that is not visible because it is covered by the lining of the roof of the mouth.
The last thing you want to hear when you give birth is that there is something
wrong with your baby. I didn't understand why he was born with this and
I cried, I cried and I cry today just remembering the pain I felt when they told
me I couldn't breastfeed my child because he had a deformity and they brought
us (my husband and I) special bottles which we would need to feed our son.
I still remember that day, we found out the second day after trying and trying
to breastfeed unsuccessfully. The nurse put her finger in our son's mouth
and found what she had suspected but didn't tell us right away. She came back
with different looking bottles and as I sat there holding back tears we listened to her
explain to us how to use them. She left and then we got visitors and I still
had to hold it in and then as our visitors were talking I burst out in tears.
The next couple of weeks/months were hard trying to learn how to take care
of a newborn baby as well as learning how to feed him correctly to make sure
the milk wouldn't come up out of his nose (which is common for cleft babies).
When Joshua was about 5 months his palate muscles strengthened enough
for him to be able to use a normal bottle and I thank God for that! We were
told he would end up needing surgery at one but because of certain
circumstances he ended up having surgery January 2010 at three years old.

"So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
                               I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Isaiah 41:10
He is such a brave little boy, he never cried, complained or whined
through the whole process! I am amazed and thankful for what God did
in Joshua! I know that God heard our prayers as well as all the people
praying for him and his surgery! It has been almost 2 years since his
surgery and his speech has improved tremendously. He has been going
to speech therapy and It is amazing to hear his wonderful little voice and
to hear his funny jokes clearly. He still has minor speech problems
but I am so thankful! I'm just thankful he is alive and well and it's
something I couldn't say back when I gave birth to him. I thought
it was the end of the world then but his small problem was such a
blessing in disguise! God is just AMAZING!!
I have learned so much through my son! I LOVE him so much!
I've learned that God has a purpose for each and everyone of us.
He is our creator and he has a reason for why he does what he does.
Many times I prayed wanting God to heal my son, for him not to get surgery!
Through a bible study session with our youth from church once I learned God's
answer isn't necessarily always what we want. He ALWAYS answers our prayers
but in his time or maybe his answer is simply no. God knows what is best for us.

"This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if
we ask anything according to his will, he hears us."
1 John 5:14

I know God has a purpose for Joshua, and I understand that now. I may not know
exactly what it is but I trust God will fulfill it in him. I thank God for the beautiful
lessons I have learned of patience and love through Joshua. I thank God for the five
wonderful, amazing years that God has allowed us to share with Joshua.
I pray that God will help me be a better mother to him so that God's purpose
will be fulfilled in Joshua and that he will ALWAYS remain in his ways.

I asked Joshua to say this verse this morning:
" I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
your works are wonderful, I know that full well."
Psalm 139:14

Love, Mom

Simple Drawstring Skirt

I finally used my new sewing machine this week! I got a new sewing machine as
a birthday present from my parents and my sister a couple weeks ago but I didn't
have a desk to set it on so I hadn't used it until I found a desk last week! I have
been wanting to make a simple skirt for my little princess since I saw this post
by Lindsay at Southern Lovely. She used Made's tutorial for a simple skirt. I love Made,
I have actually been to this site before and now it's one of my favorite sewing blogs.
I used this same tutorial to make this skirt except I cut the waistband elastic a bit short
and the skirt ended up being too tight for Sarah so I thought I would make it into a
drawstring skirt so she could even wear it next summer! I just cut a hole, took off the
elastic and made a string from the same fabric the same way I made the ties for the
polka dotted top I made a while back. So here is my little model modeling her new skirt...

and here is a full shot of her...
This was seriously very easy to sew! I can't wait to make
more for her! especially for next summer!
